Description
Quick and flavorful homemade fajitas with marinated chicken or beef, colorful bell peppers, and onions wrapped in tortillas.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound of chicken breasts or flank steak, sliced into strips
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 teaspoons of chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 4–6 flour or corn tortillas
- Optional toppings: sour cream, guacamole, salsa, shredded cheese, lime wedges
Instructions
- Start by marinating the chicken or steak. In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add the meat and toss to coat it evenly. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes; if you have more time, an hour in the fridge will enhance the flavors even more.
- While the meat marinates, slice your bell peppers and onion. This colorful mix will not only add flavor but also make your dish visually appealing.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated meat. Ensure you allow enough space so that it sears instead of steams. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked through.
- Remove the meat from the skillet and set it aside. In the same skillet, add the sliced bell peppers and onions. Sauté them for 4-5 minutes until they soften but still have a bit of crunch.
- Return the cooked meat to the skillet with the vegetables and stir well to combine. Cook everything together for another two minutes to let the flavors meld.
- While everything cooks, warm your tortillas on a separate skillet or covered with a damp paper towel in the microwave for about 30 seconds until they’re pliable.
- Serve the sizzling fajitas hot with your favorite toppings like sour cream, guacamole, salsa, shredded cheese, and lime wedges.
