Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a doughnut pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon until the dry ingredients are well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and combine them until just mixed. Make sure not to overmix; some lumps are perfectly fine!
  5. Fill the doughnut pan with the batter. You can use a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a corner snipped off to make this easier.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the doughnuts turn golden brown.
  7. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the cinnamon sugar coating, mix the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl, then coat the doughnuts while they’re still warm for maximum flavor.
