A festive twist on classic gratin this Sweet Potato & Cranberry Gratin layers tender sweet potatoes, tangy cranberries, and creamy sauce for a beautiful holiday side dish bursting with flavor and color.
Ingredients
3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp butter, melted
2 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Fresh thyme for garnish
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
2. In a bowl, whisk together cream, milk, butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
3. Arrange half of the sweet potato slices in the dish, slightly overlapping.
4. Scatter half of the cranberries over the layer.
5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the top.
6. Repeat layers with remaining sweet potatoes, cranberries, and cream mixture.
7. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
8. Uncover, sprinkle with pecans if using, and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until golden and tender.
9. Garnish with fresh thyme before serving.
