Description
A stunning red velvet–style layer cake baked in heart shapes and frosted with creamy vanilla buttercream vibrant, romantic, and perfect for Valentine’s Day celebrations or special occasions.
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
2 tbsp red food coloring
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp white vinegar
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease heart-shaped cake pans.
2. In a bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. In another bowl, mix sugar, oil, and eggs until smooth.
4. Add buttermilk, red food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar; mix well.
5. Gradually add dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
6. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
7. Bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
8. Cool cakes completely before frosting.
9. Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
10. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla; beat until fluffy.
11. Frost layers and stack cake carefully.
12. Decorate as desired and serve.
Notes
Use gel food coloring for a deeper red color.
Cake layers can be baked a day ahead.
Store cake refrigerated and bring to room temperature before serving.
