Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 tsp peppermint extract (or more to taste)
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
Gel food coloring (optional)
Extra powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
1. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter until creamy.
2. Add heavy cream and peppermint extract; mix until smooth.
3. Gradually add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until a soft, pliable dough forms (similar to playdough).
4. If using food coloring, divide dough into portions and knead in desired colors.
5. Dust a clean surface with powdered sugar. Roll each portion into a 1/2-inch-thick rope.
6. Cut into small pillow-shaped pieces using a knife or bench scraper.
7. Place mints on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer.
8. Let stand uncovered at room temperature for 12–24 hours to dry and firm up.
9. Store in an airtight container once set.
Notes
For stronger flavor, increase peppermint extract to 3/4 tsp.
Mints can be made ahead and stored for up to 2 weeks.
