Description
Soft orange-tinted cookies stuffed with rich milk chocolate filling, shaped like Jack-O’-Lanterns. Perfect Halloween treats with surprise chocolate centers!
Ingredients
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Orange food coloring
6 ounces milk chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 tablespoon butter
Pinch of sea salt
Black icing for decorating
Instructions
1. Bring butter and eggs to room temperature (1 hour)
2. Melt chocolate with cream and butter until smooth, chill 30 minutes
3. Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment
4. Cream butter and sugars until fluffy (4 minutes)
5. Add eggs, vanilla, and orange coloring until desired shade
6. Mix in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined
7. Scoop dough, flatten, add chocolate center, seal edges completely
8. Chill assembled cookies 15 minutes before baking
9. Bake 10-12 minutes until edges set but centers soft
10. Cool on pan 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks
11. Decorate with black icing for Jack-O’-Lantern faces when cooled
Notes
Don’t overfill with chocolate to prevent leaking
Completely seal dough edges around filling
Chill assembled cookies before baking for better shape retention
Store in airtight containers up to one week
Freeze unbaked cookie balls for up to 3 months
