Description

A traditional Margherita pizza topped with fresh basil, mozzarella, and tomatoes, baked to perfection.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  2. Combine flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
  3. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  6. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, covered with a damp cloth.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  8. Spread the tomato sauce evenly across the dough.
  9. Arrange the mozzarella slices on top of the sauce.
  10. Sprinkle with black pepper and red pepper flakes, if using.
  11. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven and topped with fresh basil leaves before serving.

Notes

For a crispier crust, preheat a pizza stone in the oven before baking.
