2 teaspoons vanilla extract


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.

2. In large bowl, cream softened butter with granulated and brown sugars for 4-5 minutes until fluffy.

3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla extract until smooth and combined.

4. In separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

5. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour.

6. Remove 1 cup of batter to small bowl.

7. Mix cocoa powder with hot water until smooth, then fold into reserved batter.

8. Fill each liner with alternating spoonfuls of vanilla and chocolate batter.

9. Use toothpick to create marble patterns with 2-3 gentle figure-eight motions.

10. Bake 18-20 minutes until toothpick comes out with few moist crumbs.

11. Cool in pan 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
