Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tsp baking powder

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 cup buttermilk, room temperature

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup hot coffee or boiling water

Filling & Frosting:

1 1/2 cups caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 1/2 cups heavy cream

12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup crushed toffee bits (Heath or Skor bars)

Optional garnish: extra caramel drizzle, chocolate shavings, or toffee pieces


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla; beat on medium speed until combined.

4. Gradually mix in hot coffee until the batter is smooth (batter will be thin).

5. Divide batter evenly among pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

6. Cool cakes completely on wire racks.

7. Prepare ganache by heating heavy cream until hot (not boiling), then pour over chocolate chips and butter.

8. Let sit for 3 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy. Stir in vanilla and let cool slightly.

9. To assemble: place one cake layer on a stand, spread a generous layer of caramel sauce, and sprinkle with toffee bits.

10. Top with the second layer, repeat the caramel and toffee filling, and then top with the third cake layer.

11. Frost the entire cake with chocolate ganache.
