This homemade apple pie features a golden, flaky crust filled with perfectly spiced apples. A classic American dessert that brings families together with every slice of comfort and tradition.
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup cold butter, cubed
6–8 tablespoons ice water
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
8 cups sliced apples (mix Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons butter, diced
Instructions
1. Cut cold butter into flour, salt, and sugar until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2. Add ice water gradually until dough comes together.
3. Divide dough into two discs and chill 30 minutes.
4. Preheat oven to 425°F.
5. Roll bottom crust and place in 9-inch pie pan.
6. Combine sliced apples with sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
7. Mound apple mixture into prepared crust.
8. Dot filling with butter pieces.
9. Roll top crust and place over filling.
10. Seal and crimp edges, cut steam vents in top.
11. Brush top crust with beaten egg for golden color.
12. Bake 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce to 350°F.
13. Continue baking 35-45 minutes until crust is golden brown.
14. Cool on wire rack at least 2 hours before slicing.
Notes
Use mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor balance.
Chill pie crust ingredients for flakiest texture.
Blind bake bottom crust to prevent sogginess.
Cool completely before slicing for clean cuts.
