Description
A buttery, custardy croissant bake that’s crisp on top and soft inside perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert. Made with flaky croissants soaked in a rich vanilla custard and baked until golden.
Ingredients
6 large croissants, preferably day-old, torn into chunks
4 large eggs
2 cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter, melted
Powdered sugar, for serving
Maple syrup or fresh berries, for serving
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Arrange croissant pieces evenly in the dish.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
4. Pour custard mixture evenly over croissants, pressing gently so they soak up the liquid.
5. Drizzle with melted butter over the top.
6. Let rest for 10–15 minutes to absorb the custard (or refrigerate up to 8 hours for overnight prep).
7. Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
8. Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm with maple syrup or fresh berries.
Notes
Use chocolate croissants for a sweet twist or add cream cheese dollops before baking.
To make it savory, omit sugar and vanilla, and add cheese, ham, or bacon.
Leftovers reheat well in the oven or air fryer for a quick breakfast.
