Cabbage Dumplings

  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Delicious and comforting cabbage dumplings filled with savory chicken or tofu and fresh vegetables, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head of cabbage
  • 1 cup cooked chicken or tofu
  • 1 cup finely chopped vegetables (e.g., carrots, bell peppers)
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Dough wrappers (store-bought or homemade)
  • Oil for frying or cooking (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, mix the cooked chicken or tofu with the chopped vegetables, green onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Combine everything well.
  2. Blanch the cabbage leaves: Carefully peel the leaves off the cabbage head. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then blanch the leaves for 2-3 minutes until softened. Drain the leaves and set them aside to cool.
  3. Create the dumplings: Take a soft cabbage leaf and place a spoonful of the mixture into the center. Fold the sides over the filling, then roll from the bottom to create a dumpling. Make sure to seal it well!
  4. Cook the dumplings: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the dumplings seam side down in the pan. Cook them until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  5. Optional steaming: For a healthier option, instead of frying, you can steam the dumplings for about 10-12 minutes until they’re cooked through.
  6. Serve with sauce: Enjoy these tasty dumplings with your favorite dipping sauce—soy sauce, sweet chili, or a homemade garlic sauce work wonders!

Notes

Choose firm cabbage leaves and don’t overstuff to prevent dumplings from bursting. You can use different proteins or vegetables to customize your dumplings.
