Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the cheeses until melted.
  6. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  7. Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top if desired, and bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.
