- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheeses until melted.
- Add the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top if desired, and bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
