Description
A buttery, custard-soaked croissant bake bursting with sweet berries and creamy goodness the perfect make-ahead breakfast or brunch centerpiece.
Ingredients
6 small croissants (preferably day-old)
1 1/2 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
4 large eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp lemon zest (optional)
1/4 tsp salt
Powdered sugar for serving
Maple syrup or whipped cream (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Tear croissants into large pieces and place them in the baking dish.
3. Scatter the berries evenly over the croissants.
4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, lemon zest, and salt until well combined.
5. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants, pressing gently so the bread absorbs the liquid.
6. Let rest for 10–15 minutes (or refrigerate overnight for make-ahead prep).
7. Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
8. Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup or whipped cream.
Notes
Use a mix of blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries for vibrant flavor and color.
For a richer texture, replace milk with half-and-half.
Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or microwave and still taste delicious the next day.
